Jake Paul admits Mike Perry bout is "big risk" before Mike Tyson mega-fight

View10comment0

Jake Paul recognises that a loss to Mike Perry could scupper plans for his mega-fight against Mike Tyson.

The influencer-turned-boxer was scheduled to fight heavyweight legend 'Iron Mike' on July 20 but the bout has now been pushed back to November 15. Tyson was forced to pull out of the fight after suffering a stomach ulcer flare-up whilst onboard a flight last month and Perry will now take his place next month.

Perry, a former UFC star turned bare-knuckle boxer, has been campaigning for a fight against Paul for years. The pair have shared the ring together before as they sparred before Paul's fight against Ben Askren three years ago. Paul is a fan of Perry but predicts he will KO him in less than 10 minutes.

"I think this fight is going to bring some really entertaining stuff but it is a major risk. I'm potentially sacrificing the biggest moment and payday of my career if I lose to Mike Perry. These are the positions that I like to put myself in and feel like I have to put myself in to get better under the lights."

"This fight has been brewing for years, Mike Perry has been talking s*** to me for years non-stop and I do think this guy is funny. My official prediction for the fight, three rounds or less. I'm calling it now, these guys can't hang with me. Nobody has been able to see my skill for the past year, I've had new coaches and my development has been amazing.

"Why not gain more experience against another notorious known killer? Mike Perry the bare-knuckle legend, the man that can't be knocked out, the vicious and violent brawler. This guy is a f****ng lunatic, he's undefeated in bare-knuckle which is probably the craziest sport in the world," he added.

Perry has only competed in professional boxing once but is undefeated as a bare-knuckle boxer. The 32-year-old fought in the UFC for five years but parted ways with the promotion after losing four of his last five fights. Bookies already have Perry as a considerable betting underdog for his clash against Paul.
